Area of research?

Health Economics

How is your research funded:

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am a health economist. When we assess whether initiatives provide value for money, we use questionnaires that measure their impact on quality of life and wellbeing. My research is trying to make these questionnaires easier to complete by people living with dementia. Outside work I enjoy sports like waterskiing and windsurfing. I also bake from time to time.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I taught a member of a 90s boyband to waterski.

Why did you choose to work in dementia research?

Outcomes research has been a recurring theme throughout my research career. Adapting measures for people living with dementia was a new methodological area I haven’t previously explored and I thought it would be an exciting challenge. This is also an important issue as we want to include people with dementia’s voices in research as much as possible.

What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?

Don’t dwell on rejections. There will always be other opportunities. You gained experience developing a grant application, perhaps got feedback that will improve the next attempt and possibly got interview practice for next time.

Favourite film of all time?

The Lion King
