Tell us a little about yourself:
After a PhD in Gerontology at the University of Southampton I Worked with Zinc.vc. Here I worked to ensure their early stage start-ups were fuelled by the best academic evidence and that their founders had the research skills to test their products as they built them. Obsessed with seeing the direct impact these start-ups could make, I moved in to the Innovation Team at Alzheimer’s Society. Here we work to make sure the next generation of dementia products go on to achieve scale and change the lives of those living with dementia.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
Despite working in innovation I am a pretty analogue person – sewing, painting, reading book in print – I like the old crafts.
Why did you choose to work in dementia research?
I wanted to work in health inequalities because of the deep injustices I could see here. Dementia, unfortunately is the biggest health challenge of our age – so there is no better place to start.
What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?
Follow your gut.
What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?
Demon Copperhead, Barbara Kingsolver
Favourite film of all time?
Requiem for a Dream – although I feel a bit scarred by it.
Favourite ways to unplug and unwind?
I live a short walk form the coast – so beach walks. But my preference would be to find a big mountain.
