Area of research?

I’m passionate about facilitating the meaningful participation of people with dementia and their support persons in research through participatory approaches such as participatory action research. I employ a person-centered and holistic research practices to influence occupational participation and engagement outcomes. My research interests extend to the co-design and implementation of digital and social technology with and for older adults and people living with dementia, aiming to enhance their quality of life through innovative technological solutions.

Tell us a little about yourself:

I recently completed my PhD at the University of Galway under the supervision of Professor Dympna Casey. My doctoral research focused on designing a multi-user virtual reality social connecting space for people living with dementia. With a background in Occupational Therapy (OT), I bring clinical experience from role-emerging areas of practice, including a memory technology resource room service in Ireland, prescribing assistive technology for individuals with memory difficulties. My OT background underscores my commitment to actively including people with dementia in research and technology design processes.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I enjoy sea swimming. My family and I have a tradition to swim in the sea every Christmas morning!

Why did you choose to work in dementia research?

I enjoying findings innovative ways of enriching the everyday lives of people living with dementia.

What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?

Say ‘yes’ to the opportunities that scare you!

I enjoy bouldering and going to the gym.
