Understanding Neurological Diseases through the Prism of Neurodevelopment and Plasticity
19/11/2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Neural circuits in the developing and mature brain undergo dramatic changes driven by the interplay between genetic programming and experiences. Deficits in these processes are likely core mechanisms of neurological disorders such as autism and depression. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the process of neurodevelopment, particularly in human neurodevelopment, and to study potential interventions for neurological disorders.
Part of the Global Neuroscience Horizons webinar series, this event will showcase the work of Dr. Simona Lodato will discuss the application of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived brain organoids, an emerging human cell-based model, to study neurodevelopment and the interplay between early spontaneous activity, disease modeling, and molecular programs that control circuit assembly. Another speaker, Dr. Thomas Tagoe, will discuss how our environment influences the structure and function of our brains in response to experiences. Additionally, he will talk about non-pharmacological therapeutic approaches to depression.
Attendees will have the opportunity to join in for discussion (Q&A) as well as to receive an e-certificate of attendance. We look forward to welcoming you!
Organization:
This webinar is being organized by the IBRO Early Career Committee (IBRO-ECC). The committee aims to facilitate the professional development and growth of early-career neuroscientists on a global scale. Its primary focus is to equip researchers with the necessary resources, guidance, and opportunities required to enhance their skills, knowledge, and networks. As part of the committee’s ongoing activities, it organizes webinars featuring early-career researchers from different continents.
