RSB Bioscience Careers Day
March 5 - March 7
Find out about the variety of careers open to bioscience students at the RSB Bioscience Careers Day 2024, 5-7 March from 12:00 to 14:10 daily. Each day will comprise of expert talks, Q&A’s and skills workshops, and there will also be opportunities to chat with bioscience professionals and other students from across the UK.
Talks include:
Careers in Clinical Science, with Kip Heath, Clinical Microbiologist and science communicator, NHS
Careers in Industry (speaker tbc)
Careers in Biomedical Research, with Dr Amy Vincent, Newcastle University Academic Track Fellow, Newcastle University
Careers in Academia, with Professor Diane Purchase, professor of environmental biotechnology, Middlesex University London
Careers in Commercial Science, with Daniel Similaki, Founder, Afro Caribbean Commercial Science Network (ACCSN)
Careers in Science Illustration and Communication, with Hana Ayoob, illustrator and science communicator
We will also be running a series of skills workshops as part of the event, facilitated by careers experts. These will take place in breakout rooms within Zoom, and will give attendees the opportunity to ask more general questions and discuss ideas related to the below topics:
• Tuesday 5th March – CV and application tips and tricks
• Wednesday 6th March – Next steps: where to find further study
• Thursday 7th March – What you’ve got and how to show it: Useful transferrable skills for the alternative careers job market
Please note: Workshop spaces are limited. If you would like to attend the workshops, please specify your first choice of facilitator for each session when booking.
Who can attend?
BCD is aimed at undergraduate and master’s students. Recent bioscience graduates, PhD students, postdocs, careers advisors and school/ college students considering a bioscience degree are also very welcome.
