Researcher careers beyond academia
March 20 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
The volume of resources, guidance and support for researchers looking to make the transition to other sectors has proliferated in recent years. Researchers now have much greater access to support and resources from both within and outside of their institutions which might include alumni career stories, internship opportunities, 1-2-1 career advice, mentoring programmes, careers coaches, training programmes, workshops, careers fairs, specialist recruiters and peer support groups on platforms like LinkedIn.
This expanded landscape of support is a welcome development, but can be overwhelming for researchers, and those who support their development, to navigate. Where do you start, how do you know what type of support is the best fit, and how do you know that it is valuable, reliable and trustworthy? How can researcher developers and other supporters empower researchers to make informed decisions about what support to access, and potentially, when to pay for it?
This webinar will bring together speakers from across this landscape of support to share their experiences of supporting the transition of researchers into careers beyond academia. We will also hear directly from researchers who will reflect on their own experiences of accessing different forms of support and advice. The end of the session will be dedicated to wider group discussion and sharing, covering the following potential topics:
- How do we address disparities in levels of support and opportunities across institutions, and researcher groups?
- How can we foster collaboration and share effective strategies?
- How can the impact of these interventions be evaluated?
- How should support be funded?
Join us for an enriching discussion about how we can equip and empower researchers venturing beyond academia.
