Postdoc Appreciation Week

Postdoc Appreciation Week was first established in 2009 by the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) in the United States. Since then, it has grown into an international event, with institutions and organisations from around the world participating.

Recognition: The primary goal of the week is to recognise and appreciate the significant contributions that postdocs make to the scientific community.
Professional Development: Many events and workshops are organised during this week to help postdocs develop their research, teaching, and career skills.
Community Building: Postdocs often work in isolation, so the week provides an opportunity for them to connect with peers, mentors, and administrators.
Advocacy: Postdoc Appreciation Week can also be a platform to advocate for better working conditions, benefits, and career opportunities for postdocs.
Activities: Institutions and organisations may organise various activities and events during this week, including seminars, workshops, networking events, social gatherings, panel discussions, and awards ceremonies. These activities aim to promote collaboration, share knowledge, and highlight the importance of postdoctoral research.

Postdoc Appreciation Week serves as a reminder of the essential role postdocs play in advancing research and innovation across various fields, and it encourages institutions, mentors, and colleagues to acknowledge and support their contributions. It also helps postdocs build valuable connections and resources as they progress in their careers.

This year postdoc appreciation week takes place from the 19th to 27th September, Pint of Science and Proteintech have teamed up to with Universities across the UK to bring you a series of inspiring science and careers talks.
