NIHR Conference for people new to research

Are you working within or with the NHS and curious about research with motivation to learn more? Are you a healthcare professional who wants to explore how to combine research and service delivery in your busy working life? Are you interested to find out the opportunities research could provide for your career development?
Then this conference is for you! You can also find out more about a career in research on the Dementia Researcher careers page.
Please note this conference is not suitable for:
- Experienced Chief Investigators or Principal Investigators
- Clinical Research Fellows engaged in research
- Professionals who have research as a substantial part of their current work plan e.g. 50% or more of their time is already spent on research
About the Conference
Registration is now open for ‘Research, the NHS and you – NIHR Conference for people new to research’.
Join us on Thursday 21st September (10:00-16:30) at ExCel, London as we explore the importance of research in the NHS and how healthcare professionals across the NHS can support, deliver and lead research. The conference is free to all delegates and open to anyone working with and within the NHS.
This conference is designed for:
- People working within or with the NHS who are curious about research and about becoming more involved in research and the opportunities open to them
- All healthcare professionals who are curious about how they could combine research and service delivery in their busy working lives.
- Individuals not currently involved in research, or who have only had limited involvement and want to develop more research within their career.
Drawing on their personal experience contributors will describe what they do, their training and professional development, their career pathways and how they integrate research with patient care.
By the end of the day attendees will:
- Understand why research is important to individuals/the public, communities, organisations and the government
- Understand the different ways in which they can become involved in research and how to do so
- Be able to describe what is meant by research and how it fits alongside clinical audit and service evaluation
- Be able to describe why research is integral to the future of health and care
- Understand the research system and be able to identify their role within it
- Understand their route into research and the career pathways available to them
- Be able to decide if they would like to explore a role in research and a pathway that might suit them
- Have learnt from doctors, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, pharmacists and health care scientists how to combine research and service delivery in their busy working lives.
