Mastering the Basics: Research Training

ASME and the NIHR Clinical Education Incubator are delighted to launch ‘Mastering the Basics 2024’.

Building on our first successful event in 2022, this exciting 2 day event will enhance your understanding and research skills within Clinical Education. With a jam packed programme of talks and workshops, this event also gives you the opportunity to engage and network with early career researchers and leading academics in their field.

Day 1: Mastering the Basics of clinical education research

An interactive programme for all those interested in ClinEdR. This day aims to explore foundational educational research concepts, and inspire delegates to consider a career in clinical education research.

Day 2: Mastering the Basics of a successful grant application

This day is designed for those who are working towards project funding or a Fellowship application in clinical education research. We will invite those joining day 2 to submit an abstract before the 10th of September on a research idea, work in progress, or completed work and present it during our ‘Research Exchange’.

This is an in-person event.When registering, you can choose to attend an individual day or both days together. Delegates attending both days will be invited to join our networking social on the evening of day 1. £10 pp Earlybird discount available until 31.08

We are in the process of seeking approval from the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for category 1 (external) CPD credits for this event.

Registration

Earlybird Rates

£10 per person early bird registration discount will automatically be taken from the costs below for registrations up to 31.08.24. Full rates will be charged from 1.09.24

Day 1: £85pp ASME members / £95pp non-members

Day 2: £85pp ASME members / £95pp non-members

Day 1 and 2: £130pp ASME members / £150pp non-members

When registering, you can choose to attend day 1/2 individually, or attend both days. Delegates attending both days will be invited to join our networking social on the evening of day 1.

Travel Scholarship

We are pleased to announce a travel scholarship for the “Mastering the Basics: Research Skills Training Event” on 24 and 25 September 2024 in Leeds, hosted by ASME and the NIHR Incubator for Clinical Education Research. This scholarship (to a maximum of £50), funded by the NIHR Incubator for Clinical Education Research, will be awarded to individuals, who:

  1. Demonstrate a clear plan for obtaining future research funding (for instance, any of the NIHR Academy career development programmes)
  2. Have registered to attend both days of the event
  3. Will present their research ideas as part of our ‘Research Exchange Session’ on Day 2

This is a valuable opportunity to advance your research skills and secure support for your academic journey.

The closing date for applications for the travel scholarship is 31st August 2024. All applicants will be informed of the decision within one week of the closing date.

Criteria:
  1. Demonstrate a clear plan for obtaining further funding
  2. If more entries are received than available scholarships, we will allocate these according to the following criteria:
    1. Those who have already registered for Day 1 and Day 2 of the event
    2. Those who have already submitted an abstract for Day 2 of the event
    3. A random selection, based on those fulfilling criteria A + B, who describe a clear plan for applying for further research funding
