Can football organisations provide culturally appropriate post-diagnostic support?

June 13 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Centre for Dementia Research Seminar Series

The Centre for Dementia Research at Leeds Beckett University is delighted to welcome Dr Marie Poole (a Senior Qualitative Health Services Researcher and NENC ARC Dementia Research Fellow at Newcastle University) who will deliver an exciting talk as part of our new in-person seminar series.

Marie’s session entitled ‘Can football organisations provide culturally appropriate post-diagnostic support?’ will consider the role football clubs and associations can play in providing culturally appropriate, person-centred care in local, national and international communities.

From the approach of the intersectional disadvantage of ‘working class’ males who may be less likely to access traditional models of dementia support, this work considers access to post-diagnostic dementia support for people living with dementia and family carers, considered as ‘hard to reach’ or underserved from the perspective of cultural heritage, social class and location. This exploratory research includes scoping the current provision available and working with leading dementia and football organisations to understand how dementia initiatives offered by football organisations differ from and fit with more traditional models of post-diagnostic dementia support.

The seminar will be held on Thursday 13 June 2024, 11:00-12:00, in the Knowledge Exchange Hub (Rose Bowl, City Campus, Leeds Beckett University).

Refreshments will be available when the doors open at 11:00.

Tickets are limited (40), so don’t miss your chance to join us!

We look forward to seeing you!
