Join Dr Hamied Haroon, Research Fellow at The University of Manchester, for his talk on “Balancing Work, Life and Disability as a Research Scientist!” Organised by the Brain Health Arc.
Hamied is a Research Fellow in Quantitative Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Imaging at The University of Manchester, where he gained his PhD in 2005. Hamied is a proud life-long Disabled person, Mancunian, husband, and father of two, and a Muslim of Pakistani heritage. Apart from his “day job”, Hamied is Founder and Chair of the National Association of Disabled Staff Network (NADSN), a super-network that connects and represents Disabled staff networks (DSNs) in universities and colleges, NHS Trusts, and other public sector organisations across the UK and beyond. NADSN is non-governmental, independent and self-determining, building a dynamic community of impassioned Disabled people, and endorsing the Social Model of Disability.
In this talk, Hamied will be discussing his journey into science, being disabled at work (it’s another job!) and Disabled Staff Networks, and collective activism to cause change.
Date: Tuesday 4th March 2025
Time: 18:00-19:00 GMT
