We’re excited to announce our new annual conference starting in 2024! Join us for a spectacular three-day meeting that celebrates the vibrant spectrum of scientific disciplines and the activities that define the Biochemical Society’s extensive work. Our programme promises a dynamic experience, with engaging plenary talks, numerous parallel sessions, and a host of additional activities each day, ensuring there’s something for every attendee.

Upon registration, you have the opportunity to tailor your experience by handpicking sessions that align with your specific interests. 

The programme also features an Early Career Researcher (ECR) Symposium, taking place on 8 July, as well as talks on the Society’s journals, policy work, education and career resources, and public engagement. Dedicated sessions include career development, discussions on prestigious awards, and insights into extensive grant opportunities.

Early Career Symposium

Join us ahead of our new annual conference for our Early Career Symposium, where we will explore themes important to professional development in research.

Targeted at those across the early career spectrum (late-stage PhD students, postdocs and beyond), four engaging and interactive sessions will span two days and will provide ample opportunity for learning, discussion, and networking.

Registration and lunch from 12pm 
Session 1: Starting your own lab
Speakers will share their experiences of starting their own independent research groups, sharing insights to equip and inform about this career milestone, with roundtable discussions allowing for deep exploration of the process and speakers’ highlights, challenges, and advice.
Session 2: Diversity in research careers
This careers roundtable session will focus on diverse careers and journeys, allowing you to explore where research can take you. Speakers’ experience will span different research-focused roles in settings including academia, industry, and government, providing insights into these different environments.
Social session
Meet other delegates, continue discussions with speakers, and socialise into the evening at this reception.

Session 3: Demystifying publishing
This informal breakfast session will give you the chance to meet Editorial Board members and editorial staff working on the Society’s journals and ask your questions about publishing, the editorial process and submitting to our journals.
Session 4: Entrepreneurship and commercialisation of research
This panel discussion and Q&A will focus on process of commercializing research from those who have started their own companies, and how entrepreneurial skills can be developed as an early career researcher, as well as tools, resources and support available.
