Alzheimer Scotland Annual Conference

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Influencing positive change & progressive practice in dementia’ and attendees will not only hear from a range of leading professionals, but also have the chance to put their questions to them.

Our speakers include:

• Michelle Miller, Portfolio Lead, Community Care and Dementia Portfolio, Healthcare Improvement Scotland talking about how innovation and improvement is supporting people with dementia to stay connected and supported in their communities.
• Dr Vivek Pattan, Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist for the National Health Service and Clinical Lead for Old Age Psychiatry at Forth Valley NHS. Dr Pattan will be presenting on ‘Memory clinics and testing – the gold standard experience’.
• Dr Marie Teresa Ferretti, neuroscientist and neuroimmunologist, expert in Alzheimer’s disease and gender medicine. Dr Ferretti was a co-founder and former member of the ‘Woman’s Brain Project’ and will be speaking on the subject of women’s health and dementia.
• Dr Alan Duncan, Clinical Lead and Consultant Psychiatrist for Old Age, NHS Dumfries & Galloway will be talking about the innovative Davos Alzheimer Collaborative Program on Healthcare System Preparedness for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. He will share learning from the Scotland flagship site as part of a global project.
• Hilary Evans, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK and co-chair of the UK government’s national dementia initiative, ‘The Dame Barbara Windsor Dementia Mission’. Hilary’s presentation will be on the work of the Dementia Mission which aims to draw lessons from the Covid vaccine taskforce to accelerate dementia research.
• Professor Craig Ritchie, Professor of the Psychiatry of Ageing at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Ritchie will present recent evidence from diagnostic and therapeutic studies that ’turn the page’ on a new chapter in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
