In this webinar Dr Daniel Erksine, Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellow from Newcastle University, presents his research into Lewy Body Dementia.
He describes a series of post-mortem studies aiming to understand why Lewy bodies form, their relevance to cellular health, and their role in eliciting symptoms of Lewy body dementia. Lewy body dementia is the second most common form of dementia and is characterised by the formation of Lewy bodies in vulnerable neurons. Despite the putative view that Lewy bodies spread through the brain and cause neuronal death, few studies have directly investigated the relationship between Lewy bodies and cellular health and death.
