Tell us a little about yourself:
I did a BSc. in biochemistry and genetics at University of Nottingham and then went to Oxford University to do a PhD focussed on the structure of amyloid fibrils. I spent 18 months in Canada as a postdoc in Toronto and then came back to the UK to work at the LMB MRC centre in Cambridge. I then spent three more years with a fellowship at University of Cambridge before moving to the University of Sussex. I have worked on Amyloid and protein misfolding diseases since I started my PhD and even as an undergraduate, I was interested in protein misfolding diseases. I now run a research group with four Postdocs and three PhD students.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I always wanted to be a scientist but my physics teacher said I would never amount to anything.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
I have always been fascinated by neurological diseases and as a PhD student, I found that I was most interested in proteins and how they fold and misfold.
