Help Shape NIA Strategic Priorities

Reading Time: 2 minutes

NIA Strategic Directions: Help us shape priorities for the next 50 yearsAs we celebrate NIA’s 50th anniversary year, we invite you to help shape the next 50 years of aging research. It’s been four years since NIA last updated its Strategic Directions, which serve as a common reference point for the institute’s scientific priorities and assessment of our progress.

During this time, NIA has been fortunate to continue robust growth and scientific progress while our understanding of aging has continued to evolve and adapt to big changes, including artificial intelligence, shifts in the demographics of older adults, and COVID-19. Now, it’s time to revise and refresh our Strategic Directions to reflect the latest advances in the field and the emergence of promising new avenues of inquiry.

As a next step in that process, we are pleased to publish a new request for information (RFI) to generate ideas for NIA’s 2026-2030 Strategic Directions. We ask researchers, industry, stakeholder organizations, other federal agencies, and the public to respond with your insights and expertise by Sept. 13, 2024.

Help bring the future into focus

NIA leaders recently outlined some of the big-picture topics on the horizon for the institute. However, to maintain our momentum and ensure that diverse points of view are represented, we need to hear from a broad spectrum of perspectives on emerging challenges and opportunities NIA must consider, moving forward. As you prepare your suggestions, it may also be helpful to look back on how far we have come by visiting NIA’s timeline of historical milestones.

Respond by Sept. 13 to help us navigate what’s next

As we look toward the future, updating and clearly communicating our priorities to the aging research community is paramount. We look forward to learning from you, so please share your thoughts by Sept. 13, 2024.

Kate NAGY, Deputy Director, Office of Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation, Office of Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation (OPAE).
