Society of Neuroscientists South Africa – SONA 2023

As chair of the Local Organizing Committee and President of the 16th International Conference of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA 2023), I would like to welcome all Neuroscientists from the African Continent and across the globe to SONA 2023 that will take place at Indaba Hotel, Spa & Conference Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa.
This will be the third SONA conference to be hosted in South Africa, after the SONA 2005 in Cape Town and SONA 2015 in Durban.
The Conferences Theme ‘The Brain in Health and Disease: From Basic to Translational and Clinical Neurosciences’ promises to bring together Neuroscientists from across all spectra of brain sciences. There will be pre-and post- conference workshops, symposia, oral and poster presentations. As an In-Person conference, there will be opportunities for interactions and networking. We hope to have a mini reunion for all the SONA Hall of Fame Inductees during this conference.
The Venue, Indaba Hotel, Spa and Conference Centre, is a home away from home, with diverse facilities and a natural environment that is conducive for friendly interactions and refreshments, after the isolations of the covid-19 pandemic. Johannesburg is the business hub of South Africa with various touristic attractions for participants. So do add 2 days to enjoy the city and South Africa.
The Conference Company as Organizers will be readily available to attend to all and sundry from now till the conference is over and your return travels are concluded.

The Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA)
The Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) is a non-profit organization registered in Nairobi, Kenya in 1993. It functions as the umbrella organization for the regional and national neuroscience societies and groups in Africa. SONA is a member society of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO).
The aim of SONA is to promote research, teaching and advocacy in Neuroscience in Africa and the Society holds an international conference every two years. The 16th International Conference of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA 2023) will bring together Neuroscientists across the African continent and beyond. These Scientists will showcase their research findings from the Basic to Clinical Neurosciences.
The Conference will provide a platform for Private and Public Companies and Organizations in the Science domain, especially the brain sciences, and in the Technology sector to interface with these neuroscientists.
It will also be an opportunity to showcase the Tourism richness of South Africa as an in-person programme is considered very vital in the planning for the conference.
