This week Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) released a report updating on the first year of its #WhatsYourPlan campaign, which aims to galvanise governments to develop, fund and implement national dementia plans in their countries.
ADI reports that since the universal adoption of the WHO Global Action Plan on the public health response to dementia 2017-2025, uptake on the implementation of National Dementia Plans (NDP) and strategies has sadly been far too slow.
In response, ADI and its member associations officially launched the direct action #WhatsYourPlan campaign, aiming to galvanise governments to develop, fund and implement national dementia plans in their countries.
In the first year of the campaign, they have:
- Inducted 52 countries into the campaign
- Delivered 154 official letters to ministries
- Held 29 face-to-face and online ministry meetings
- Secured 20 commitments to develop and implement NDPs
As you might expect ADI states that establishing dementia as a priority with ministries has proven to be a tough task, even with 194 Member States having committed to the 2017 WHO Global Action Plan. However, armed with data on prevalence, cost and mortality, alongside key stakeholders, they are making decisive progress on multiple fronts.
Read the ReportIn this report, you can find:
- A visual summary of the progress made during the campaign
- Status updates covering the 52 ADI member associations participating in the campaign, identifying the progress being made by each towards a NDP
- Key recommendations and a call-to-action for governments to respond to their 2017 commitment to develop NDPs by 2025
- An introduction to the next steps of the #WhatsYourPlan campaign as it moves into its second year of activities
In 2023, ADI will see the campaign move into the next stage, galvanising the voices of people affected by dementia, to amplify our call for National Dementia Plan development using both media and social media.
They will continue to directly ask governments: #WhatsYourPlan?
