Gerontology & Tonic – Neurodiversity and dementia
17/11/2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The G&Ts are a forum where you can meet up informally with other BSG ERA members. We support each other with short presentations on gerontological theory and topics, designed to be accessible to “accidental gerontologists”, followed by an informal hang-out where we can share a virtual drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) together.
For this G&T we have invited Lynsey Stewart, a second year part-time PhD student at the University of Strathclyde. Lynsey also runs her own neurodiversity training and consultancy business.
Lynsey’s research interests look at the intersection between neurodiversity and dementia. More specifically, developing a cognitive profile of autism and dementia. She will talk to us about her PhD research identifying the specific cognitive functions that are sensitive to dementia but not sensitive to autism, to allow the development of a specialised dementia assessment toolkit for use with autistic people.
During the G&T we aim to have a relaxed discussion and there is an open space to chat, ask questions and connect.
We also have the opportunity to share a cocktail together, the recipe was chosen by Lynsey.
If you want to make the cocktail, you will need:
- 1 measure of Malibu, or any coconut rum (or non-alcoholic alternative)
- 2 teaspoons of chocolate milkshake powder
- 1 glass of milk
- Large amount of ice
