Tell us a little about yourself:
I am an Alzheimer’s Society Junior Fellow based at Bangor University in North Wales studying why neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s Disease target specific brain regions. Using the fruit fly as a model, I am working to identify cell-types in the brain that are selectively affected by human disease-causing proteins such as tau (the basic component of tangles). This research will lead to a better understanding of the causes of disease and has the potential to translate to useful therapies for prevention and treatment.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I can dissect a fly brain in under 5 minutes.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
Great sense of purpose, highly rewarding, opportunity to do timely and exciting research.
