Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m from Dublin, Ireland where I did both my undergraduate degrees (Biomed, University College Dublin) and MSc Degrees (Neuroscience, Trinity). I started my PhD in Oxford in 2016 where I studied the role of mTOR in tau aggregation in iPSC derived neurons. This is my first post-doc – which I choose as it’s a similar research area as my PhD research, but gives me the opportunity to learn different techniques. Outside of science – I love watching rugby, wandering around charity shops and post lockdown I’m most excited for cinemas to reopen.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
Halloween is my favourite holiday.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
Two reasons – I remember thinking once how lucky I was that (at the time) none of my older relatives suffered from dementia and how much I would have lost if they had suffered from dementia. I also was completing my studies around the time of the major antibody trial failures so it was an interesting time for the field – lots of new areas of research opened up.
